H1 visitor spend exceeds £10bn for the first time

There was strong growth in overseas visits and spend to the UK’s nations and regions in the first six months of 2017, figures released by VisitBritain show. There were a record 19.2 million visits to the UK in the first half of 2017, up 9% compared to the start of 2016. Inbound visitors spent £10.8bn between January and June 2017, up 14% on the same time last year. UK sees record number of tourists in 2017

The UK saw a record number of inbound visitors in this year, with figures up 8% compared to 2016. The figures, announced today (10 October) at VisitBritain/VisitEngland’s 2016-17 annual review, showed that from January to July this year there were 23.1 million overseas visits to the UK, with visitors spending £, up 9%. Highest-ever visitor numbers and spending in July

Figures released today show that inbound tourism in July was the highest ever for inbound to the UK since official records began in 1961.There were a record four million overseas visits to the UK during the period, the first month to ever break through the four million mark, and up 6% on the same period last year. VisitEngland has launched a new campaign encouraging young people from Great Britain and Northern Ireland to take a holiday at home in a bid to boost the UK’s tourism industry.
