UK hotels enjoy ‘encouraging’ growth from domestic ‘staycationers’

The latest data from the Expedia group has revealed UK hoteliers enjoyed ‘encouraging’ growth this summer helped by a significant rise in hotel demand from domestic travellers choosing to take a staycation. The findings drawn from Q3 2017 data covering July, August and September, show that demand for trips made by domestic travellers increased by just over 20% when compared to the same period last year, with several UK holiday regions and cities seeing strong year-on-year growth. UK hotels enjoy August RevPAR boost

New data released by ALMR shows that hotels across the UK enjoyed another welcome boost in revenue per available room (RevPAR) during the peak holiday month of August. The figures showed positive growth for the hotel industry across Europe, including the UK, which increased RevPAR by 4.6% compared with the same month the previous year, despite occupancy remaining relatively flat. RevPAR figures for the year to date (vs 2016) show a growth of 7.8%, outperforming the European average of 5.8%. Average daily rates (ADR) for UK hotels registered an increase of 4.5% in August against the European average of 4.2%.


UK hotels post record H1 performance

The first six months of the year produced the UK hotel industry’s highest occupancy, average daily rate (ADR) and revenue per available room (RevPAR) for any first half on record, according to data from STR. When compared to the same period last year, there was a 1.7% increase in occupancy to an actual level of 75.1%, a 4.7% increase in ADR to £89.33 and a 6.5% increase in RevPAR to £67.12.
