Highest-ever visitor numbers and spending in July

Figures released today show that inbound tourism in July was the highest ever for inbound to the UK since official records began in 1961.There were a record four million overseas visits to the UK during the period, the first month to ever break through the four million mark, and up 6% on the same period last year. Overseas visitors spent £2.8bn in the UK, which also broke the record for the highest tourist spending. Hotel demand remains strong for ‘destination UK’, Expedia says

UK hoteliers enjoyed an encouraging start to summer thanks to a significant rise in hotel demand by international visitors, new data from the Expedia group has revealed. The findings drawn from Q2 2017 show that the London remains the top destination for travellers, with several other UK destinations showing encouraging signs of year-on-year growth. Bristol hotels enjoy summer business boom

Bristol hotels have seen a boost in visitors to the city, after a record number of people went there this summer. Hoteliers also benefited from displaced demand due to major events in nearby Cardiff, which did not have enough accommodation of its own. According to data from Destination Bristol, August 2017 saw the best weekend performance from Bristol hotels ever recorded. The data also reported visits to key Bristol attractions rose by up to 20% compared to August 2016. British hotels see strong start to holiday season

Hotels across the UK enjoyed a welcome boost in revenue per available room (RevPAR) and occupancy rates during July, the beginning of the peak holiday season, data by ALMR shows. British hotels in the maintained steady occupancy in July, with figures of 86% which were up by 0.3 points compared to June. Due to increased prices, RevPAR grew by 5.3% compared to the same month last year. The results tally with recent figures from VisitBritain which showed that the overall number of overseas visits to the UK for the first half of 2017 was a record-breaking 19.1 million, up 9%


VisitEngland extols youth ‘staycations’

VisitEngland has launched a new campaign encouraging young people from Great Britain and Northern Ireland to take a holiday at home in a bid to boost the UK’s tourism industry. Statistics show that 16-to-34 year olds took almost 1.4 million fewer holidays at home last year compared with a decade ago.
