A Devon hotelier has been jailed for 22 weeks for numerous assaults against her employees and a police officer. Shirley Bothroyd, 59, who was dubbed “the female Basil Fawlty” in a TripAdvisor review, claimed she could not remember the incidents as her “drinks were spiked”. Bothroyd ran the Bay Hotel in Teignmouth, which she bought four years ago following a 30-year career as a human rights lawyer. The hotel closed earlier this year.
